…..catch you on the flipside {Part II}

December 30th, 2011

Following on from ‘Part I’ of my 2011 round up, here are some more highlights of my year……

As part of my training this year, I attended a course run by music photographer Tom Barnes. I feel like some courses are slightly sugar coated, and very ‘Team America’, and although you leave feeling exhilerated and ready to take on the world – which isn’t necessarily a bad thing – sometimes you just want to hear ‘the truth’. Tom’s course was refreshing because it felt truthful. There was no sugar coating, and he wasn’t afraid to tell you the truth – even if it was slightly grim. I liked that. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I had attended a course that was ‘honest’. There were no rose tinted glasses, no high fives, and not a hint of sugar coating in sight. For this, I am grateful. I did a shoot for a DJ earlier in the year, and music photography is something I would love to do more of, but unfortunately, due to other area’s taking priority, it’s had to take a back seat. Maybe in 2012 I can look into this a bit more. So if you’re a musician looking for some promo shots, please get in touch! :)

I’ve also been lucky enough to be part of some very special days…..

….including some very special first dances….

One of my other favourite things from 2011 was Exposed by Jasmine Star. To some it may seem an odd thing to list as a highlight of my year, but for me, it was a truly inspirational story. Her dream was to be a wedding photographer; she followed her dream and made it a reality. I think the thing that hit me with Exposed, was the fact that there was no magic formula. She wanted something so badly, she made it happen….and then some. You can read here what I thought about it.

Without it sounding like an Oscar acceptance speech, I couldn’t possibly list every shoot, and every person who has impacted my life or my business this year, but I do just want to say a HUGE (….you see what I did there?!), thank you to everyone I’ve had the chance to work with, as well as my friends and family who have supported me throughout the year. I’ve met some truly wonderful and talented people and it’s been an absolute joy!

2011 was my first full year as a photographer, and also the year I finished the Bespoke course with Aspire, where I met some truly amazing photographers.

……and as I look back on the year, yes, I know I’ve made some mistakes, but hopefully I’ve learnt from those mistakes and won’t make them again!

2012 can only get better – catch you on the flipside people!

Happy New Year! :)
