Some swans, a handwarmer, and self-portraiture #fail

February 3rd, 2012

In cold weather, I’ve been known to wear two pairs of gloves when going out shooting. However, any photographer will know that this really isn’t practical! Not to be a total girl or anything, but I always get really cold fingers…..

…..So, my day started out with Ian showing me how to use my new Zippo handwarmer ———->

He bought it for me the other week, to take out with me on days I’m shooting in the cold….and when it’s not in use, I stick it in my pocket to generate heat and keep me warm 🙂

One of the things I wanted to do more of this year was head out with my camera, and just be…..

……go wherever the mood takes me

….meander around

…and get lost in a world of my own

I’m not really into taking wildlife shots, but this squirrel caught my eye

It’s been exactly 4 weeks since my last play camera day! I had planned on going out every couple of weeks, but I suppose not everything runs to plan….

Last time I went out, I decided to go urban….out of my comfort zone. Today, I felt like a nice meander in the frost, so I stayed organic and headed to Dunham Massey.

I love it there. When I was a kid, my parents used to take me, and I used to roller boot up and down all the paths!

One thing I wanted to learn more about this year, is landscape photography.

Today gave me a chance to play around….

….but it also gave me the chance to get some of my favourite detail shots

….and blow areas of them out

I think these are my favourite shots of the day….

I love a bit of lens flare!

On the way back to the car, there were two swans just lazing around…..

I let this guy get hissed at and spat at first, and then I figured it was safe for me to move in and get my shots!

For some reason, back at the car, I decided I wanted to try and get a self portrait. The first one was out of focus, as I had focussed on the tree’s behind me…..

…then my remote was having a hissy fit and it either didn’t set the shutter off…..

…..or it went it off as I started to walk back to the camera!

I switched the camera to manual focus, and semi-guessed where I would be stood! … can see how unimpressed I am!

….and then the shutter didn’t go off again – until I went to investigate of course!

As if I don’t like being in front of the camera as it is!

…..The look on my face says it all!

….I really don’t know why I persevered!

……finally I gave up as the remote was being so temperamental. It was like it had a mind of it’s own!

….and just for the record <looks at clock>, 9 1/2 hours later, my handwarmer is still going strong!
