….boudoir photography {Natalie}

February 10th, 2014

Natalie and I have been working together on boudoir shoots for a year now. She does the hair and make-up of each client making sure they get fully pampered before their photoshoot. She also helps to calm any last minute nerves that may arise before getting in front of the camera.

But what happens when you’re doing your own hair and make-up and have last minute nerves of your own……?

After telling so many women that having a boudoir shoot is such an amazing experience, a couple of weeks ago Natalie decided it was about time to put her money where her mouth is and get in front of the camera….

For me, it was something I’d done many times before, but for Natalie, it was something bigger. We chatted and giggled as friends do, especially when I nearly fell off her water bed! But it wasn’t until I read Natalie’s blog post about the whole experience that I got a real insight into what thoughts actually arise before and after a boudoir shoot….

If you’d like a boudoir shoot like Natalie had, then don’t be shy – get in touch! Please don’t worry about your images being shared, that only happens if you consent to them being used.

Here are some shots from the day, once you’ve looked through them please head over to Natalie’s blog and check out her thoughts on the whole experience….

Happy Monday! x

2013 Review

December 27th, 2013

It’s that time of year again where I get to look back and reflect on what was good, what was bad and what was really, really ugly. Truth be told, 2013 has been a bit of a rollercoaster ride with many ups and downs. The first part of the year was quite difficult as I’d been struggling with my health, and although it was something I didn’t broadcast I was conscious that my business wasn’t moving as fast I wanted. I was diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and unfortunately two doctors had missed it, so for three years my symptoms had been growing to the point where I just couldn’t function. I never realised that left untreated it could cause so many problems. I’d got to the point where I just thought I was suffering from stress and also generally being a bit mardy! When I was finally diagnosed it was like a huge weight had been lifted – mainly because I realised I wasn’t being mardy AND it was treatable. High fives all round! By the middle of the year when my medication had kicked in I was finally starting to feel like myself again. This was also the point where I started to push my business in a whole new direction.

Lucy and Barry {….wedding day}

October 16th, 2013

….bubbles, matching robes, matching socks, being front page of the newspaper, many amazing handmade details, a beautiful Charlotte Balbier dress and a suitcase of flip flops for people to change into so they could dance the night away! …..not to forget a cracking sunset! It could only be the wedding of Lucy and Barry.

Last month Lucy and Barry said ‘I do’ in front of all their family and friends at a pretty church in Marton, followed by a reception at Heaton House Farm.

So much thought and detail went into the big day and Lucy spent hours making so many pretty things for the wedding. From putting gems onto the back of matching robes for all her girls at the bridal prep, to hand painting the bride and groom cake-topper.

Thank you so much for choosing me to shoot your big day, and to all your family and friends for making myself and Julie feel extremely welcome. Big congratulations to you both 🙂

Rachel and Rhys {wedding}

September 25th, 2013

Last month I shot the wedding of Rachel and Rhys, and I have to say that these guys were possibly the most laid back bride and groom ever. I had a fab time shooting Rachel’s bridal prep while the lovely Julie Smith headed over to Rhys to shoot his groom prep.

The ceremony took place over at St. Mary’s church in Cefn Meiriadog, followed by a reception at Rowton Hall in Chester. To keep guests occupied between the meal and the evening reception there was a pub quiz, so Julie found herself in her element going from table to table helping people. Sssshhhh….don’t tell Rhys! Rhys’s best man, who also happened to be his brother, gave a fantastic speech complete with images of Rhys from his many stag nights in many different outfits, much to everyone’s amusement. Although I have to say, he didn’t look anywhere near as good as Rachel in her amazing dress. ( Sorry Rhys! 😉 )

Congratulations guys and thank you for letting me part of your big day! 🙂

Lucy and Barry {pre-wedding shoot}

August 6th, 2013

A couple of weeks ago, I headed over to Lyme Park to meet Lucy and Barry for their pre-wedding shoot. In the days running up to the shoot we had been treated to some lovely sunny weather along with clear blue skies. Rubbing my hands together as if creating a cunning plan, I arranged an evening shoot so that we could make the most of the hazy evening sunshine and beautiful orange skies. In theory it was brilliant, in reality my plan didn’t quite work out like that, as the one thing us photographers can’t control is the weather. In the end we moved the shoot to the afternoon as the weather wasn’t looking too good. We may not have had the sun we were all hoping for, but we still managed to have a lovely afternoon drinking coffee, chatting about the wedding details and of course wandering around Lyme Park taking photos.

Lucy and Barry have been together for 9 years and met while both working as holiday reps. Lucy was looking after families and children, while Barry had the more extreme role of working on the 18-30’s holidays! I think Lucy is the most organised bride I’ve ever had and Barry has one of the most infectious laughs ever – I defy anyone not to smile or laugh in Barry’s company! I’m looking forward to shooting their wedding next month…..

Rachel & Rhys {pre-wedding shoot}

July 4th, 2013

Last month on a very windy Saturday, I headed up to the Lake District for the pre-wedding shoot of Rachel and Rhys. It’s where Rhys proposed, so naturally it was the ideal place to have their shoot, and what with my love of the Lake District I didn’t need any convincing. They’ve been together for 10 years, and when they first met they used to hang out in Woolworths looking at CD’s together! 🙂

I just want to say a big thank you to The Cranleigh, who very kindly let us go in and take some photographs even though Rachel and Rhys weren’t staying there – they were full up due to the Great North Swim that was taking place. We also shot in the grounds of The Beech Hill Hotel, where they ended up staying instead and the views were stunning! Later in the evening we headed down to Bowness-on-Windermere to the bench where Rhys popped the question.

Rachel and Rhys are naturals in front of the camera and they were a dream to photograph! After spending the evening with them, it’s so obvious they are meant to be, and I’m reeeeeally looking forward to photographing their wedding in 4 weeks time! …..not long now!! 🙂

365 project {days 44 to 58}

March 30th, 2013

One thing I should remember about my 365 project is that I need to stay organised! I’ve been taking photos and telling myself I’ll upload them later that day….. only I get distracted, and before I know it I’ve got photos on two different cameras and on my phone. Yesterday it took me nearly two hours to sort everything out. Note to self: stay on top of 365 project!

Day 44:

Saturday night movie. We’ve never seen ‘The Thing’ before, but it’s been highly recommended on a number of occasions. It was okay – but I found myself giggling in a few places due to the special effects. It’s hard to imagine anything like that these days….

Wedding album joy….. {Andrea and John}

March 11th, 2013

I know I’ve said this before, but I’m going to say it again….. I love presenting brides and grooms with their wedding albums – it’s like Christmas 🙂 A couple of weeks ago it was the turn of Andrea and John. These guys were such a pleasure to photograph, so to finally hand over all their goodies and see their faces was amazing…..

…..boudoir photography

February 7th, 2013

There are many misconceptions about boudoir photography. When mentioned, a lot of people instantly think of glamour photography, along with a range of page 3 poses. There are also many other photographers with their own ideas about what boudoir photography is. For me, it’s about celebrating who you are – tastefully. Women choose to have boudoir shoots for many different reasons. For some, it’s a gift for their partner, be it Valentine’s Day or their wedding day. For others, it’s about reaching a milestone in their life or a certain age and wanting a reminder of how they once looked. Whatever the reason behind it, a boudoir shoot is a personal choice and tastefully done it can create some beautiful images to treasure.

Whether you want a boudoir shoot to celebrate just how damn gorgeous you are, you want to surprise your partner with something special, or you want to treat your partner to a photoshoot (it is nearly Valentine’s Day after all!), please get in touch. Hair and make up will be professionally done by Natalie of Roberts Steel Hairdressing and you’ll also receive a complimentary bottle of wine to help you relax whilst you’re being pampered.

Rachel and Stuart {wedding day}

January 17th, 2013

Crikey! I can’t believe I’ve only just got around to posting this wedding. Last May – yep, that’s right – May 2012, Rachel and Stuart were married at the beautiful Hillbark Hotel. Stepping in at the last minute to help out Matt Bowen, I headed over to shoot Stuart and his groomsmen getting ready. Like with most groom prep, when I arrived all the guys were nearly ready, which meant I mostly got to hang out in the pub watching them drink, dance, (yes, dance) and deal with sunburn…..

….with Rachel and Stuart both being music junkies, they named each table after different bands, and as Stuart couldn’t decide between them, he had two best men, which also meant two best man speeches…… all I can say is, I was giggling so much, I’m surprised I managed to hold my camera still to focus!

I know it’s a bit late (but better late then never, eh?)……

Also, a big thank you to Matt for having me along to shoot with him.
