Day by Day {days 85 to 91}

May 29th, 2011

The last 7 days in images:

Day 85: On Thursday night I had the realisation that I was missing the petticoat for Saturdays shoot. On Friday morning I had to make a mad dash into Manchester. Pop Boutique came to my rescue.

Day 86: Crazy view from my window Monday night.

Day 87: Seeing as I spent all today sat at my computer editing houses for a commercial shoot – it seemed appropriate that this should be todays image.

Day 88: Our selection of veg and fruit is growing day by day. We now have a miniature green house in the garden and many strawberry plants. Ian bought another 7 a few days ago…..

Day 89: I love how the rain on the outside of the bathroom window looks, along with the steam on the inside of the window. I just think the different textures look pretty cool.

Day 90: Tea at Nandos….Mmmm! I LOVE Nandos. We got a really good table, at the back in a corner, totally out of the way. The row of pots behind us caught my eye…..

Day 91: An early birthday present off Ian. I saw it last night at the Trafford Centre and decided I had to have it! Seeing as he hadn’t bought me any little random presents yet, he bought me this. On the way home in the car, I started learning “3 blind mice”. I had the realisation that I was sat playing a harmonica and burst into fits of laughter. I can’t actually believe I’m admitting this…..

Day by Day {days 78 to 84}

May 22nd, 2011

The last 7 days in images:

Day 78: Todays “summer themed” shoot was cancelled. The weather was awful and we were also a model down, so along with model Janina Maibaum and MUA Catherine Hughes of Ivy Clara Make-up, we decided to turn Janina’s living room into a studio. It would have been a shame to waste the day.

Day 79: I have all sorts of random things sitting on my desk, surrounding me as I work. One of my favourites is this slightly scruffy looking Kooky cat.

Day 80: I did a photoshoot for Manchester Bridal Boutique today. Michelle Sisson did hair and make-up and model Emily Haynes looked absolutely stunning. This is one of my favourite images from the day and I’m totally in love with that amazing hair piece!

Day 81: This is Angus having his head scratched and loving every second of it. Actually, we don’t know if his name is Angus – we don’t even know if it’s a boy! I gave him the nickname and it stuck. He lives near my friend Ste and he loves getting fussed. We’re not sure who he belongs to, but he certainly seems to be well fed. Whenever I see him, I want to bundle him into my car and bring him home with me. He’s adorable…..

Day 82: This is obviously Mr Bump. When I was little I loved Mr Bump and even had a sign for my door that said “Where things go bump in the night”. I still have it. My friend Ste bought me the little Mr Bump for Christmas, I attached him to my camera bag and unfortunately he lost his legs in an accident! A few weeks ago Ste replaced it with a more ample sized Mr Bump, that now lives on my desk…..

Day 83: I love graffiti. Whilst wondering around the Northern Quarter of Manchester today, looking for a key accessory for tomorrows photo shoot, I stumbled upon this. I’m pretty sure last time I was around this area, this wall had something different on it, but I can’t remember what…..

Day 84: I’d been wanting to do a 1950′s style bridal shoot for a while; I’d seen the dress and I knew I wanted it to be in Blackpool. I told friend & fellow photographer Chrissy Mathew about it and asked if she would be interested in doing it, as we’d discussed teaming up on a project for a while. I then got Catherine Hughes of Ivy Clara Make-up on board and Chrissy asked model Florence Rose king to be involved. This is one of my favourite shots from yesterday. Flo was a dream to photograph…..

Travels {Nelson Lakes}

May 19th, 2011

I was totally in love with New Zealand. The landscape was breathtaking. As we drove from Lake Tekapo up to Nelson Lakes National Park I was totally in awe of the open countryside. Off in the distance we could see snow capped mountains, yet all around us we were surrounded by luscious green fields.

We drove for hours on the open road barely passing another vehicle and it was on this journey that we experienced the rain in New Zealand for the first time. It was bouncing nearly as high as the car and it was so heavy the windscreen wipers wouldn’t go fast enough; we slowed down to a crawl as we tried to see through the window. It was looking doubtful that we would get to explore Nelson Lakes if the weather continued.

We arrived late afternoon and headed indoors, hoping that the weather would clear up by the following day; luckily it did, and the next day we headed out ready to walk Mount Robert Circuit. Being an alpine location the scenery was amazing but along with the views came the extreme weather; we experienced sun, rain, gale force winds and hail stone. When we reached the top of the circuit the wind was violently strong and we had no cover, we held onto each other as each step forward took every ounce of strength that we had. To top it all off it started raining as well and we had to take it in turns to find our waterproofs in the bags and then try to put them on. After about 15 minutes we reached a hut and were able to take shelter until the weather died down.

As we headed back down the other side of the circuit, the clouds cleared and bright blue skies emerged and the sun began to shine. The wind wasn’t as kind though, and although it eased off slightly, it stayed with us for the rest of the walk. We stood and admired the view on the way back to the car and breathed in our surroundings. This was the last part of our trip on the South Island, as the next day we were flying to the North Island of New Zealand and into Wellington.

Wellington was an important part of the trip for me, as I would get to see one of my oldest friends, who I hadn’t seen for about 6 years.

Day by Day {days 71 to 77}

May 16th, 2011

I’m still going strong and my Day by Day project is going well. Here are days 71 to 77:

Day 71: Seeing as most of our diet is made up of veg Ian and I decided to start growing our own. We’ve got a mini green house in the garden and lots of pots of seedlings on the kitchen windowsill…….

Day 72: I attended a wedding course by Pete Bristo at Boddelwyddan Castle today. It was interesting but if I’m honest his style of photography isn’t really for me. Here is a photo of Sophie and Tim as Sophie was strutting her stuff. I love the way it’s so natural that she started to get the giggles…..

Day 73: I’m in the middle of reading Fast Track Photographer by Dane Sanders. It’s a very interesting inspiring read and it’s making me re-think a lot of things at the moment…..

Day 74: Our strawberry plants are doing pretty well. We had two today that were ready to take off and eat. I couldn’t believe how yummy they were! It’s a shame I’ll be eating them in ones and twos…..please grow faster strawberries!

Day 75: At the end of the day I realised I hadn’t taken my daily photo – as I looked around the room to see what was about, the reflection of the lampshade in the mirror was the first thing that caught my eye.

Day 76: As I looked around the room and noticed my reflection in my sunglasses. I thought it was quite cool!

Day 77: Whenever I walk past Hollister in the Trafford Centre, I always stop and admire the chandelier in the entrance. Today I actually bothered to stop and take a photo. I really want this in my house…..!

Springtime woodland photoshoot {part 2}

May 10th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago I headed to Rivington Country Park to do a photoshoot with Paige Sapherson.

The bluebells were in full bloom and looked stunning, so it was only natural to shoot Paige amongst them.

The weather was stunning, but there were plenty of places to grab some top shade out of the blazing sun.

We were spoilt for choice for places to shoot. As we walked through the woods, the luscious greenery looked amazing in the mid-morning sun.

We even found sand!

She was such a dream to photograph.

Thanks to Paige for an amazing shoot, and to Jade Brady for make-up.

Day by Day {days 64 to 70}

May 8th, 2011

Day 64: I hate feet. All feet. Yet on Sunday night, when I got in from a meal at a lovely Indian restaurant, (which was washed down with equally as lovely draught Cobra), I was obsessed about taking a photo of my feet. I think mainly because the sun was shining and having my feet out felt oddly liberating…..but even as I’m posting this, I’m cringing…..because I hate feet so much!

Day 65: On a trip out to Hare Hill there were numerous things to take photos of….lots of flowers which I loved…but then I saw this scuplture and just knew that I wanted it as todays image….

Day 66: Okay, so my “Day by Day” project doesn’t particularly have any rules – apart from the fact that I’m supposed to take a photo each day. Unfortunately, or rather, fortunately (for me anyway!), I’ve been really busy over the past week and haven’t really had time to take any images. So for the next few images I’m posting up photos taken over the past few weeks. This one is of Paige who I shot a couple of weeks ago. It was such a glorious day & Paige was a dream to photograph…..

Day 67: The tulips were in full bloom at Biddulph Grange Garden a few weeks ago, I was in my element. They all looked so stunning in the amazing sunshine….

Day 68: Tulips – again! There were so many different colours and they all looked so beautiful. Biddulph Grange Garden was soaked in glorious colour…..

Day 69: One of my favourite studio shots from the showcase at Manchester College a few days ago. The level of talent was outstanding…..

Day 70: Another one of my favourite studio shots from the Manchester College Showcase. I normally use natural lighting for my photoshoots, so when I get to play around with something different, I really like it. There’s something about this shot that I really love….

Springtime woodland photoshoot

May 4th, 2011

This is a sneak preview of last weeks springtime woodland photoshoot. Paige 17, is a beautiful girl who is in the early stages of putting together her modelling portfolio.

Last Wednesday we headed to Rivington Country Park to get some amazing location shots.

I haven’t got around to editing everything yet, but I just wanted to share a few photos. Paige was a dream to photograph and I hope I get the chance to work with her again soon.

Thanks to Jade Brady for doing the make-up.

Travels {Lake Tekapo}

May 3rd, 2011

From Queenstown we drove to Lake Tekapo; it was only a stop over unfortunately on our way to Nelson Lakes. I was determined to see it though and make it part of our trip; I’d seen some stunning images in guide books and on the internet and I longed to see the bright turquoise waters.

It didn’t disappoint. As we pulled up at Lake Tekapo Scenic Resort, the bright blue water shone in the sun. It was glorious.

We checked in and then stood on the balcony of our apartment and looked out towards the snow capped mountains. The landscape of the South Island of New Zealand, blew me away.

The drive from Queenstown to Lake Tekapo was filled with the most beautiful landscape I’d ever seen, and now here we were, looking out across Lake Tekapo, admiring it in all it’s beauty.

The Church of the Good Shepherd is situated on the edge of the lake, so we headed out to see if it was open, as the view from the altar window attracts many people from around the world. Unfortunately it was closed, but as we soon realised, we didn’t need a window to see the lake in all it’s glory, the views were stunning wherever we stood!

As I stood on the shores of Lake Tekapo I smiled to myself. The sun was shining, the water was the famous bright turquoise that I had longed to see and off in the distance I admired the snow capped mountains. It was a moment of disbelief where I wanted to pinch myself to check that I wasn’t dreaming…..

We headed back to the apartment, grabbed a cold beer, and sat on the balcony watching the sun go down…….

Next week: Nelson Lakes

Day by Day {Days 57 to 63}

May 1st, 2011

So the new name for my personal project of a photo a day is “Day by Day”…….

Here are the images from the last 7 days – {days 57 to 63}:

Day 57: I’d been determined all day that I wanted to head out and catch a sunset. This evening we decided to make a last minute dash to St Annes to catch an amazing sunset after a glorious day. In reality, it was really cold and the sunset was disappointing. This is Ste holding aloft his “Olympic Lucozade” bottle and shouting something random like “By the power of Lucozade”…..We
drove home shortly afterwards. I was cold and had sand in my trainers…..

Day 58: Ian and I decided to buy a mini green house….well, some kind of “grow bag” so we can start growing our own vegetables. Whilst mooching around Asda I found this plant pot in the shape of ladybird wellies….it made me smile….I may go back and buy it at some point.

Day 59: Ian had to go into Manchester for a tutorial at college, so I decided to go with him. We had a mooch around the shops and had lunch at Nandos. I love the veggie burgers here…..

Day 60: I did a model portfolio shoot this morning at Rivington Country Park. The weather looked a bit grim but it soon turned out to be absolutely glorious! Paige was an absolute dream to photograph, she’s such a beautiful girl. This is one of my favourite photo’s from the day. A big thanks to Paige and also to Jade Brady Make-up…..

Day 61: I bought some Gerberas for yesterdays photoshoot, but I only ended up using one of them. Unfortunately by the time all of them had been carried around in the sun for a couple of hours, they were slightly worse for wear….

Day 62: I was messing around with my extension tubes and Ian’s eye was the closest thing to experiment with.

Day 63: Being Bank Holiday weekend we decided to head out to Lyme Park for a few hours. The sun was strong but the wind was so cold! I took this towards the end of the day but I think I’m going to start banning sunglasses when I’m photographing people. Reflections do my head in big time…..
