Bridal shoot & “How to” make-up guide…..
Regular readers of my blog will know that I was recently involved in a “How to” guide for bridal make-up, which is a current weekly feature on Boho Weddings and Events. Catherine Hughes of Ivy Clara did the make-up guide and Alex Outhwaite was Catherine’s lovely model for the day……..
Check out week’s one and two on how you can go from this…….to this…….over on Boho now…..
Once the guide was complete and Alex looked radiant with her freshly applied bridal make-up, we headed over to Clifton Country Park to do a bridal shoot.
Alex looked stunning and it was lovely Read more »

Travels {Lake Taupo}
From Wellington we made the drive over to Lake Taupo through torrential rain. It was so bad that the windscreen wipers didn’t go fast enough and every car we passed was crawling along at a snail’s pace.
By the time we reached Taupo we were glad to get into our apartment, the weather was so bad that we couldn’t even go anywhere. I was bored. So bored, that I lay on the floor taking photos of the sky through the patio window.
….to this in a matter of minutes!
I don’t do bored well. I get annoying when I get bored. So I then turned Read more »

Day by Day {days 113 to 119}
Day 113: Feeling that my office needed brightening up again, I went and bought a sunflower for my window sil. It’s so summery!
Day 114: I loved how the texture of the lampshade looked as the light shone through it.
Day 115: The strawberry plants are still going strong. I pulled this one off it today….nom, nom, nom. Ian isn’t home so unfortunately Read more »

Lost in my own little world…..
There is nothing I like better than grabbing my camera and heading out into the sunshine. The weather has been pretty grim just lately, but as the sun finally appeared this afternoon, I started thinking about places I’ve visited over the past couple of months.
I love getting lost in my own little world, where I wander around with my camera and zone everything else out. Nothing else matters…..
When I’m on my own, that’s good, but when I’m with other people, I get conscious of the fact that they are just stood around waiting for me, Read more »

Inside on a rainy day
I love working with natural light and being outside on location, but sometimes it’s good to experiment and do something different. So last month when a summer shoot I was part of got cancelled due to the ‘not so summery’ weather; myself, model Janina Maibaum and make-up artist Catherine Hughes decided we should do just that…….head inside and do something different!
Janina wanted to create a look using brightly coloured clothes & make-up against a white background.
So, we all piled into Janina’s flat, cleared everything out of the way, Read more »

Day by Day {days 106 to 112}
Day 106: My arm swelled up on Sunday afternoon and was soooooo painful. No idea what it was at the time – I just knew it hurt!
Day 107: Day 2 of “Oh my god, my arm is going to fall off” (very dramatic). After an emergency trip to the doctors I was told I had olecranon bursitis. I’ve been given anitbiotics and super strength anti-inflammatories. I’ve spent a couple of weeks catching up on a lot of editing, and apparently it’s been caused by leaning my elbow on the desk……repeated trauma! How pathetic! Why couldn’t I have injured it doing something fantastic instead?! It’s a common injury apparently…
Day 108: I’ve been editing up some images today that I’m really proud of. I can’t wait to share them all over the coming weeks. Although this wasn’t taken today, I really wanted to share it. Make-up by Catherine Hughes of Ivy Clara. Model: Alex Outhwaite
Day 109: I love Cath Kidston. Wandering around Selfridges last night I Read more »

Bridal make-up {how to guide}
This is a little sneaky peek of a shoot I did a couple of weeks back. Catherine Hughes of Ivy Clara Make-up & Styling was asked to do a feature for Boho Weddings and Events on how to do bridal make-up. I was pretty excited when Catherine asked me to do the photography for it.
More images and full blog to come in the next few weeks, but for now, head on over to Boho Weddings and Events and see week 1 of how you can go from this……
To this….!
I also wanted to share this image of model Alex Outhwaite hastily eating a doughnut before she had her lipstick done!
I’m looking forward to working with you both again soon.

1950′s inspired bridal shoot
I’d had this idea for a while that I wanted to do a 1950′s inspired bridal shoot, it had to be in Blackpool and I wanted to shoot down on the beach under a pier.
I got together with Chrissy Mathew, Catherine Hughes of Ivy Clara and Florence-Rose King, and we all headed to Blackpool for the day. The fatal flaw in our plan was that nobody thought to check the tide times! Unfortunately the tide was well and truly in so the idea of shooting down on the beach and under the pier had to be abandoned…
It was pretty cold and grim but Flo was a true professional and didn’t complain once; in between shots we Read more »

Travels {Wellington}
As we flew from Nelson to Wellington, I was nervous about how low the plane was flying. To this day, I’m pretty sure it didn’t go nearly as high as the one we skydived out of! It was a 25 minute flight and for the whole journey I was fixated on the view from the window. The landscape, the sea; so clear and so beautiful. We were sat near the wings and when I saw the wheels drop down whilst we were still over water, I went into a panic! Luckily due to the position of Wellington runway and the short flight this was normal!
View of Wellington from our balcony….
We touched down, went through customs and then headed over to the shuttle bus. As we made our way to the hotel, I realised just how close to Wellington harbour we were staying. I love the sea, and the fact that we were located so close, made me feel better about being in the city.
We checked into the hotel, made a coffee and then stood out on the balcony; I gazed out across the harbour and Read more »

Day by Day {days 99 to 105}
Day 99: I saw this small gerbera daisy plant in Tesco and couldn’t resist it. My office really needed brightening up a bit so this was perfect……
Day 100: 100 days of photos – wow! Anyway, I took a photo of this courgette last week, but I can’t believe how much it’s grown! I think the progress of this might become a regular feature…..
Day 101: Apocalypse Now is a film that Ian has raved about for years, but for some reason I never fancied it. Tonight, there were special screenings at various cinemas so we went along to see it. I can’t believe I didn’t watch it sooner. I really enjoyed it and I’m glad that the first time I saw it was on the big screen. However, parts of the film were so loud, it was actually painful….next time we go the the cinema, we need to get there early enough to get a seat somewhere other than the second row….
Day 102: Whenever it’s time for my birthday or Christmas, you can guarantee that I’ll ask for at least one magazine subscription. This is the latest one. It was my birthday at the end of May, so now every month I get the National Geographic Traveller magazine landing on my door mat. Bliss. Total escape and ideas for the next big adventure.
Day 103: Realising that it was time for bed and I hadn’t taken my photo, I looked around the room for something to photograph. This policeman money box caught my eye….
Day 104: At the bottom of the garden whilst filling up the bird feeders, I noticed the evening sun shining through the trees…..
Day 105: Henry, one of my parents cats was being soft and wanting attention today. It would be silly not to have her as todays photo….
