Day 237 {Seeing the light}

January 26th, 2012

Having a south facing living room, means that when the sun decides to show itself, it hits here first. So last week, when the sun decided to rise high in the sky, it created patterns through the blinds onto the walls. I always look at the shapes it creates and think I should take a photo – but never actually get around to it! Last week though, I grabbed my camera and captured it – at last. I love how some of the ovals over lap…..

Day 236 {I heart Retro cam}

January 17th, 2012

I’ve got a bit of a fascination lately with the camera on my phone. Or rather, more specifically, Retro cam! I just love the outcome. On the way home from a bridal fayre at the weekend, the sun was starting to set, so I grabbed my phone and started clicking away. I love the colour cast it produces and the overall roughness of the image…..

Quieting the mind

January 14th, 2012

I’ve never been one for sitting still. Being quiet. Not fidgeting. Or generally quieting my mind.

I’ve recently been following the BBC 2 series Great Barrier Reef. I love it. Firstly, Read more »

Day 235 {Burning plastic}

January 13th, 2012

I make no secret of the fact that I’m not very good at looking after plants. There are a few ‘hardy’ plants that I’ve managed not to kill over the years, but not many! Over the past 12 months Ian has developed a bit of a green thumb, and has done really well at bringing some of my plants back to life, and also keeping us in fresh fruit and veg by growing it in the garden. So I was quite surprised when my mother-in-law bought me a Narcissus as one of my Christmas presents. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE flowers, I’m just not very good at looking after them….and as pretty as they are…to me, they smell a bit like burning plastic! I recently spent 3 days sniffing various areas of the kitchen, trying to figure out where the smell was coming from, only to find it was coming from my new plant!

Prom fashion shoot

January 11th, 2012

As I looked along the rack of dresses, I wanted to pore over each and every one of them.

I’d just returned some wedding dresses to Charlotte Balbier from a previous shoot, (you can see Part I and Part II here) and as I received a tour of the new premises, I came face to face with the Prom dresses.

“Let me know if you need any” said Lucy “You can borrow them anytime you want”.

Oooooh interesting!!

Fast forward about a month and I found myself emailing Lucy with a list of dresses off the Drama Queen FB page.

The shoot took place at The Midland Hotel in Manchester, so I Read more »

Day 234 {Quest for the perfect chocolate cake}

January 11th, 2012

I’ve never really been a fan of chocolate cake. It’s just something I don’t particularly like. On many occasions though, I have been known to walk into a shop or cafe and stare longingly at the chocolate cakes. Sometimes I even buy one – just to see if I like it, and then Ian stands there with his ‘I told you so’ look on his face, and watches as I throw it away. They always look so succulent and inviting and then end up being dry and bland.

I don’t know why I keep persisting, it’s almost like I feel I’m missing out on something and I’m on a quest for the perfect chocolate cake! On very rare occasions I’ve found a restaurant that does a really nice hot chocolate fudge cake and then I feel quite smug with myself.

The other night, on my second trip to Starbucks in one day ( :) ), Ste ordered some kind of walnut chocolate cake, so of course I had to try some. It was actually ‘okay’…..and I sat there quite smug with myself, like I was no longer missing out on something.

Day 233 {Pink sky makes me smile}

January 11th, 2012

I love a good sunset. I also love a good sunrise. Unfortunately, I’ve only ever managed to capture a decent sunrise when I’ve been off travelling! I never manage to get up and out in time when I’m at home…

One of my favourite parts of the night sky is when it starts to turn pink. Luckily enough, my office is in a pretty good position to watch the changing sky as the sun goes down. Occasionally I manage to grab my camera in time and capture something like this. For some reason, it always makes me think of the ‘Luck be an old lady’ episode from of Sex and the City, and it always makes me smile – just a little.

It’s all about me…..

January 7th, 2012

As I looked out across the water, the reflections were still, and the air was silent. It was something I had neglected last year, so this year I knew that some changes had to take place.

It’s easy to forget about what Read more »

Day 232 {It’s all about me}

January 6th, 2012

It’s easy to forget about the things we enjoy. It’s too easy to get caught up in life and…..work….and forget about the things that inspire us. Last year I neglected a lot of things, and one of them was connecting with my camera…..

….going out and just ‘being’; trying new things and taking photos of things I wouldn’t normally take photo’s of. Experimenting. So this year I’m going to put that right. Today I headed over to Salford Quays and just spent a couple of hours wandering around. This is one of my favourite shots. It’s just so simple…..
