I’m not a landscape photographer, but it’s still something I enjoy doing.
A few weeks back I headed over to Tatton Park for a Sunday afternoon stroll, and on the way back to the car, I noticed this couple walking through the tree’s. I loved the scale of the whole thing. They looked so tiny. I played around with it and thought it looked better in black and white. I think there’s something quite peaceful about it…..Filed under: Day by Day, Personal, Photography | Comments Off
I think it’s safe to say that my ‘Day by Day’ project has definitely taken a back seat over the past few weeks. Sometimes I’ve forgotten and sometimes I’ve not had the chance.
So if I miss a day, sometimes I think I’ll take two the next day…..which really defeats the object of taking a ‘photo a day’. Then the days roll into weeks and I lose motivation to do it….
There is also the inspiration side of things as well. I really do admire photographers who come up with ideas, day after day…..and people like Tracey Barrow who do a self-portrait everyday – I simply have to tip my hat to them (I don’t wear a hat, but if I did, I would)! So for now, I’ve decided if I take a photo, that’s great; if I don’t have time to take one, I may just post up an old photo that either 1) I just like! 2) Inspires me or 3) Has never been posted before. I’ll probably keep numbering them as well…..and even though they won’t be consecutive days, it will still relate to the number of photo’s that have been posted.
I think I put too much pressure on myself sometimes; I think a lot of people in the ‘creative industry’ do…..but as the year draws to a close I’m finally starting to let myself wind down. Well, I say wind down, but what I really mean is, look back over the past year, evaluate everything, and start preparing for next year. …..and although I’ve had a pretty good year, I still feel like I’m finding my feet with a lot of things…and I still feel like there is so much to learn, and many different avenues to explore with my photography and my business.
I feel like I’m starting to get (a bit) more organised…and my ‘to do’ lists are starting to get cleared quicker and I’ve been making time to read as well. I love reading, but I never used to give myself that ‘down time’; I used to convince myself that I didn’t have time or I should always be doing something more important. But I’ve finally allowed myself to accept the fact that reading IS important for me. Whether it’s photography related or not, it’s all of a sudden become an indulgence! The first hour of my day starts with reading. Breakfast, brew and a book, followed by exercise. I then feel ready to start my day….
After reading a post by Promise Tangeman a couple of days ago, I also felt inspired to take a look at how I organise my ‘to do’ list (s). So now I have all my current projects broken down, and I also have my upcoming projects / tasks for the next four months on my wall. Oh yes…thats right people….FOUR whole months. I’m determined to start 2012 super organised. (Funnily enough, I also have those exact same boards – spooky)!
….so for now, I’m off to make another list…..and as for 2012….I’m hoping it’s the year I finally find my feet

It’s been another busy week, but I’ve just about managed to keep on top of my project…..well…..kind of. Some day’s I’ve taken two photo’s to make up for missing a day. But that’s okay….my project…..my rules!!
Anyway, here are days 215 to 221…..
Day 215: There is an adorable pussy cat that comes into our garden. We call him pouncy kitty! We don’t know where he lives, but he comes in and knocks plants over and hides in the tree’s underneath the bird feeders….waiting…to pounce! Luckily the birds are too fast for him.
Day 216: Pouncy kitty – again! He’s getting braver and friendlier. He comes up to the back door now, but he’s still too quick for me when I try and get his photo. This was taken on my 50mm 1.8. I think I just need Read more »Filed under: Day by Day, Personal, Photo A Day, Photography | Comments Off
Well, it looks like I’m back ino the swing of things! It’s been a busy week, lots of admin, planning and co-ordinating, but I’ve made time to take a photo each day….Yay me!
Here are days 208 to 214…..
Day 208: As a photographer, it’s probably quite pitiful that I don’t really have any photo’s up in the house. We have one wedding photo in the living room, and I have a couple in my office, but that’s it. …and the only time I ever take photo’s of Ian is when we are on a day out somewhere. I sometimes think I need to make more of an effort to get photo’s of the people close to me.
Day 209: Smudgie. A bit of a Read more »Filed under: Day by Day, Personal, Photography | Comments Off
I’ve been pretty bad over the past month or so at posting my ‘Day by Day’ project, but hopefully I’m back on track! Here are days 201 to 207……..
Day 201: Whilst having a massive clear out I found these roller blades at the back of the wardrobe. I bought them when I was about 18/19 and I can’t believe I still have them! Ian and I used to go rollerblading after that though when we first got together – not these days though – my hips aren’t up to it! God, I’m getting old! :0)
Day 202: Another find during the clear out. My wedding shoes. I had every intention of ‘wearing them again’, so I had them Read more »Filed under: Day by Day, Personal, Photo A Day, Photography | Comments Off
Day by Day: the last 7 days of images…..
Day 162: A rare moment of trying to relax in front of the TV. Most days, when I’m not shooting, I’m doing something photography related, either at my desk or out and about. Just lately though, Ian and I have been making more of a conscious effort to get some ‘down time’ before bed. I couldn’t even tell you what we were watching. Something mind numbing that we didn’t need to concentrate on. I have trouble switching off, so I probably still had all things photography flying around my head.
Day 163: Realising I had missed a day with my photo, I started looking around my office at some of the random things I have. This is Scarlet….a Bad Taste Bear. She’s fab!
Day 164: Taken along with Scarlet the Bad Taste Bear, when I realised it was getting Read more »Filed under: Day by Day, Personal, Photography | Comments Off
Day 155: I have an oversized lampshade in my office that I love. It’s completely in the way of the middle of the room, but I don’t care…..!
Day 156: Our chilli plants are doing fab! We have so many growing now….I think my food is going to be laced with chilli forever, but I don’t mind!
Day 157: The clouds looked really cool the other night as I looked Read more »Filed under: Day by Day, Personal | Comments Off
I’ve been pretty bad in the last week at remembering to take my photo, so there have been a couple of occasions where I’ve ended up taking two in one day to make up for it!
….anyway, here are days 148 to 154:
Day 148: While I was having a massive clear out, I found this postcard. It’s now pinned to my noticeboard.
Day 149: Realising I had forgotten to take todays photo, I randomly decided to take this. It’s a collection of things I have sat on my desk. Miss Piggy because I love pigs, especially Miss Piggy! ….the smaller pig was from a range called ‘Bang on the door’. I don’t even know if they make them anymore, but basically the pig was in some handwash. I bought the handwash just so I could get the pig out! The squeezy stress space hopper because I love space hoppers. When Ian and I first moved in together, we lived in a bungalow….and my mode of transport to get from room to room was a space hopper! …and finally a Blythe doll. I love Blythe by Gina Garan and I have various collections of books, dolls, mugs etc
Day 150: We have so much stuff growing in the garden at the moment. Ian takes care of it all and occasionally I join in and help with watering. I think if I had to get more involved, everything would die!
Day 151: Again, realising I had forgotten my photo, I took this of one of the mice from Bagpuss. He sits on my bedside cabinet, and when you squeeze his belly he sings….
Day 152: My favourite plant in the garden….Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ montbretia. It’s in full bloom and looks stunning….
Day 153: The blueberry plant in the back garden. We went for aaaaages thinking it had died…and then last week, Ian came in with a hand full of blueberries. Yummy, yummy in my tummy!
Day 154: Wandering around Barton Square at the Trafford Centre, there were these singing teddy bears. They reminded a bit of the bears at Blackpool illuminations for some reason….Filed under: Day by Day, Personal, Photo A Day | Comments Off
So last week I started a 30 day challenge set by Alex Beadon. One portrait a day for 30 days. But for me, 7 days in and I realised how much I didn’t like it! I hate being in front of the camera and it’s taking the enjoyment of of my Day by Day project. So I’ve decided I might try one a week (just enough to push me out of my comfort zone!). I think I’ll do a full blog post over the next week or so about how much I loathe being in front of the camera. But for now, here are days 141 to 147…..
Day 141: This should have been yesterdays photo….anyway, it had been a loooooong week, and last night I realised I had made the right decision in buying in some Tsingtao. Ice cold from the fridge, it was exactly what I needed…..
Day 142: Exercise has always been a big part of my life. I first joined a gym at 16 and then started teaching aerobics when I was 20. Running, swimming, thai-boxing, aerobics, spinning, yoga and many other things in between have all played a major part in my life. I’ve been plagued by injury, illness, joint problems and had many operations, but through it all I’ve always found some kind of exercise to participate in. It’s how I start my day, and if I had to stop exercising, I don’t know how I would cope. It’s my time. A time when I can clear my head and prepare for my day ahead. It’s my stress reliever….
Day 143: The joys of working for yourself and from home….or maybe not! ….I realised Read more »Filed under: Day by Day, Personal, Photo A Day | Comments Off
Day 134: My favourite plant in the garden is this ‘Lucifer’ plant….or to give it’s full name: Crocosmia ‘Lucifer’ montbretia. I’ll take a full photo of the actual flowers in a day or two, as I think they’re looking particularly stunning at the moment….
Day 135: Realising I had forgotten about my photo (again), I glanced out of the window to see the sun setting. I really must get out at some point to try and get a decent sunset…..
Day 136: Ian discovered that the first of our tomatoes have started to grow….
Day 137: Flowers……
Day 138: New toy. My favourite lens is my 50mm 1.8. I shoot virtually Read more »Filed under: Day by Day, Personal | Comments Off
